Ending with the quarter part way through 1969, all Canadian
coinage currency was no longer produced of genuine silver. The "true silver"
coin such as this one, was slightly larger than the succeeding fifty cent
piece. It was determined that the market value of raw silver surpassed
the the face value of the currency and, therefor persons were found to
be forging the metal and selling it to jewelers and the like at market
value.
